Turning Local Shopping and Experiences into Points

For events that go around a shopping street or a tourist area, organizers sometimes ask "Can we give points to people who buy something at a shop?" or "Can we give points to people who visit every place on a list?" In NaviTabi you can do this by combining existing features. This page is organized so that you can start from what you want to do and find the feature to use. For the setup steps, follow the link for each feature.

Bonus QR and Combo Bonus are features for score-type courses. Once you set up either of them, participants on older versions of the app can no longer join the event. For what to tell participants, see Guidance for Participants — Guidance for events that use bonus points.

Giving points for a purchase or an experience at a shop

Create one Bonus QR for each shop and hand it to the shop. The shop staff show the QR only to participants who meet the condition, such as making a purchase. When a participant scans it during play, the points are added.

A Bonus QR can be scanned anywhere. The QR itself never expires, and there is no limit on how many people can scan one QR (the same participant earns points from the same QR only once). If an image of the QR spreads around, people can earn the points without going to the shop. Ask each shop to do these three things.

  • Show it on the spot, only to participants who meet the condition
  • Do not let anyone photograph the QR
  • Put the QR away while it is not being shown

Points to note when designing the event

  • Bonus QR cannot be used in Team Play categories. For events played in teams, use the Combo Bonus in the next section or the points of the spots to build an alternative
  • It cannot be used in permanent (no time limit) events
  • You can create up to 50 Bonus QRs in one event
  • If you put the shop name in the name of the Bonus QR, the result breakdown shows which shop the points came from

All the limitations are listed in Bonus QR — Scope and limitations.

Giving points for visiting every spot on a list

For a bonus such as "+100 points for visiting all 5 sponsor shops", use a Combo Bonus. You set the target spots and the points for each number of spots achieved. The points are added automatically when the condition is met.

Combo Bonus also works in Team Play. Use it when you want to encourage teams to go around the whole area.

No notification appears on the participant's screen when a Combo Bonus is achieved. Tell participants the target spots and the points in your advance guidance. For the setup steps and cautions, see Combo Bonus.

Giving points for a question answered on the spot

Questions that cannot be answered without looking at an exhibit, or yes/no questions, can be made with quiz spots. Participants answer the quiz after punching at the spot and earn additional points for a correct answer.

In categories that use quizzes, set the punch method to Manual Punch & Photo (see Category Settings — Punch settings).

Keeping photos as evidence

If the condition is something like "a photo of you eating the local specialty" or "a photo of you doing the activity", use a category where participants punch with the camera. On the Photo Check screen you can review the photos one by one and record Accept, Pending, or Reject. When you reject a photo, you can choose whether to deduct that spot's points.

Event operators can also use Photo Check, so several people can share the checking on the day. Deduct points only after the participant has finished (see Photo Check — Judging plays that are still in progress).

Example combinations

  • For a shopping street event played individually, prepare a Bonus QR for each sponsor shop in addition to the spot points, and add a Combo Bonus for people who visit every shop
  • For a sightseeing event played in teams, Bonus QR cannot be used. Make the sponsor shops into spots and use a Combo Bonus to give points for going around them
  • For an experience-based event, make the places of the experiences into spots, have participants punch with the camera, and review the photos with Photo Check after the event
