Photo Check
In categories that punch with the camera, the organizer can review the punch photos taken by participants. That screen is called Photo Check. As well as recording a judgment, you can deduct that spot's points when a photo does not meet the conditions.
How to open it
There are two ways in.
- From the results list — open the "..." menu on a participant's row and choose Photo Check
- From the result detail — tap a punch photo in the participant's result detail (the same on iOS and Android)
The Photo Check menu item appears only for categories that punch with the camera. It does not appear for categories that only use GPS or QR punching.
If you open a photo from the result detail without management permission, it is view-only and no judgment can be recorded.
Recording a judgment
Photos are shown one at a time, and you judge each with one of the following three.

A photo with no judgment is Unchecked. Choosing the same judgment again returns it to unchecked.
Rejecting and deducting points
When you choose Reject, the Reject Photo confirmation opens and you pick one of the following.
- Reject & Deduct N pt — deducts that spot's points
- Reject only — records the judgment without deducting
Entering a Reason for rejection (optional) gives you something to go on when you look back later.
If you deduct points, the deduction is recorded in that participant's score adjustments. You can review the adjustment details from the result detail, and participants can see them too.
Undoing a rejection
If you change a rejected photo to Accept or Pending, or choose Reject again to return it to unchecked, you are asked Undo Rejection? ("The rejection status and any point deductions will be removed."). Choosing Undo Rejection removes the deduction automatically along with the judgment. There is no need to reverse the score adjustment by hand.
Judging plays that are still in progress
You can open the photo check for a record even while the participant has not finished yet. The result list also includes participants who are still playing, and in a category that punches with the camera, Photo check in the "..." menu appears whatever the state is: in progress, finished, or cancelled (DNF). In an event with many participants, working through the photos that have already arrived shortens what is left after everyone finishes.
There are two things to watch out for when you judge during play.
While a participant is playing, their app recalculates and rewrites the score at every punch. If you reject a photo and deduct points during play, a later update from the participant's side can overwrite the score so that the deduction is not reflected in the total (only the score adjustment entry is left behind). During play, limit yourself to recording Approve / Pending / Reject, and deduct after the participant has finished. If you have already deducted during play, open the score adjustment after they finish, check whether it is reflected, and enter it again if needed.
While playing, a participant can retake and replace the photo for the same spot. Even when the photo is replaced, the judgment and the deduction made by a person remain as they were (only the AI verification is redone automatically). For participants you judged during play, it is safer to review them once more after they finish.
Relationship to AI photo verification
In events where Enable AI-powered Photo Verification is turned on in the event settings, the AI result is shown next to the photo.
- AI badge — a green check for a pass, a red cross for a fail, and an orange question mark when the AI could not decide
- Match — the match rate against the reference photo, as a percentage
- Reason — the text explaining how the AI judged the photo
The AI judgment and the human judgment are recorded separately. Even when the AI has judged a photo, it stays unchecked until a person judges it. Photos judged by a person are marked Judged by reviewer.
For spots with no reference photo, No reference photo is shown and the photo is not subject to AI verification.
When AI verification runs, and what it needs
AI verification runs automatically as soon as the participant's photo is uploaded. It does not wait for the finish, so records that are still in progress get judged too. A photo is only verified when all of the following are true.
- Enable AI-powered Photo Verification is turned on in the event settings
- A Reference Photo is registered for that spot
- The participant's photo has been uploaded (nothing is verified while the upload is delayed, for example out of signal)
The result appears with a short delay, so the badge may take a while to show up after the photo itself does. If verification fails, the photo simply stays without a badge and no error is shown. Check those photos yourself.
The Enable AI-powered Photo Verification setting is captured by a play at the moment the participant starts, and it is carried over to every punch photo of that play. Changing the setting in the middle of a play does not affect the play that is under way (this holds whether you turn it on or off). The change takes effect from the plays that start afterwards. It may be picked up again mid-play, for example when a participant restarts the app and their record is restored, but you cannot rely on that. Settle the setting before participants start.
Records of permanent events are stored in a different form from ordinary events, so they are not subject to AI verification. If you want to use AI verification, create the event with a period.
When a photo is replaced
A participant can retake and replace the photo for the same spot. When a photo is replaced, the AI verification is redone automatically, but the judgment and the deduction made by a person remain as they were. Because the human judgment takes priority in the display, a photo you have already judged does not show the new AI result, and the earlier badge may remain visible. When a photo may have been replaced after you judged it, check it again after the participant finishes.
What participants can see
The AI badge, match rate, and reason are also shown when a participant opens the photo from their own result. The rejection reason is shown to the participant in the same way. Write both on the assumption that participants will read them: concise and based on facts.
Filtering
When there are many photos, you can narrow them down with the following filters.
- All
- Not yet judged — photos the AI has judged but a person has not
- AI: Rejected — photos the AI judged as failing
- AI: Uncertain — photos the AI could not decide on
- Unchecked — photos a person has not judged yet
- Rejected — photos a person rejected
In events that use AI verification, starting from AI: Rejected and AI: Uncertain gets you to the photos that need attention faster.
Filtering in the photo check is currently a feature of the iPhone app only. On Android the photos are simply listed in order and cannot be filtered (the AI badge, match rate, and reason are shown on Android as well).
The participant's overall status
When you close the Photo Check screen, that participant's check status is aggregated automatically and reflected in the icon in the results list.

| Accept | Everything has been judged and nothing was rejected |
| Reject | Everything has been judged and at least one photo was rejected |
The aggregation counts visit records for controls (checkpoints). Start and finish are not counted.
Team play
Team categories have their own Photo Check screen. You open it from the team results list and record Accept / Pending / Reject just as you do for individuals.
Permissions
Photo Check can also be used by event operators. They can record judgments and apply the deduction that comes with a rejection. For the permissions of each role, see Staff Roles and Permissions - Permission list.
Note that Set alias name and Update Entry Number, in the same "..." menu, depend not on the role but on whether the account of the person performing the operation is subscribed to the Organizer Plan.
