Rogaining Camera
Rogaining Camera is a recording tool that can be used independently from NaviTabi's main event features. It lets you move freely, take photos, and keep a record without using a course configured in the app.
You can use it even when you are not participating in a NaviTabi event. It is useful for paper-map rogaining events or informal training sessions where you want help with photo recording and timekeeping.
Where to launch it
Open it from the camera button in the top-right corner of the top screen.
What you can do
- Move freely and take photos at spots you choose
- Record photos as visited spots
- Show elapsed time and remaining time
- Pause and resume timekeeping
- View, edit, and share the record
- Create a record from photos already stored on the device
Good use cases
- You want to keep your own record in a rogaining event where the organizer provides only a paper map
- You want to organize checkpoint photos and passing times on your own device
- You want to train with a time limit while moving freely
- You want to add scores and notes later and keep the result as a record
Difference from a standard event
| Item | Standard event | Rogaining Camera |
|---|---|---|
| Course | Configured by the organizer | None |
| Spots | Configured by the organizer | You add them freely |
| Score | Based on organizer rules | You can enter it manually later |
| Finish | Depends on course rules | You stop it yourself |
How to use it
Take photos and record them
- When you take a photo with the camera button, it is added as a visited spot
- You can manually enter points for each spot later
Check the time
- If you set a time limit, you can switch between elapsed time and remaining time display
Pause and resume
- You can pause and resume timekeeping
- You can still take photos while paused
- To finish, use the red stop button
Useful features
Shake to take a photo
If you enable shake in the settings, you can take a photo by shaking the device without touching the screen. This is helpful when you are holding a paper map.
On Android, if the camera type is set to External camera app, timer shooting by shaking is not available. Because sensitivity differs by device, you can adjust it in four levels.
View and edit the record
Rogaining Camera records are saved to the server automatically and can be viewed only by you.
- Check the photographed spots on a map
- Enter points for each spot
- Calculate the total score automatically
- Replace photos
- Edit the title and notes
- Save or share a screenshot of the result screen
Create a record from existing photos
You can create a Rogaining Camera record by selecting photos stored on your device.
The record is created using:
- Photo date and time
- Location data
If the photo data does not contain valid date, time, or location information, the record may not be created successfully.
